ALEXANDER SHIHAN TRIUMPHS at the14th International Martial Arts
Tournament
The Greek
Martial Arts Association, whose patron is King Constantine 11 of Greece,
recently asked Jon Alexander, now coming up to 69 years of age, to represent
the United Kingdom in the 14th
International Martial Arts Tournament held in Argos, Nr. Athens.
Argos, the famed birthplace of Jason of the Argonauts and the Legend of the
Golden Fleece, has hosted this annual tournament for 13 years.
This year’s event, one of the largest ever, had over 400 entries in 16
categories from 15 Nations.
After a gruelling, long series of draws and rematches, Jon eventually won
through to take
1st place in the Japanese Hard
Karate Forms (KATA).
Jon performed KATA from the Zen-Shin-Goju-Karate
system and won with the maximum points possible.
Jon also scored another 1st in the Slow Formal Chinese Forms by performing 24 Step Peking Style Tai-Chi-Chuan.

He was also honoured with a special trophy which
comprised part of a Greek War Chariot over 2,000 years old
found in the Castle of King Menalaus,
whose wife Helen was taken by Paris of Troy which resulted in the great Trojan
10 year War
associated with the Face that launched
1000 Ships.
The Tournament was organised by 7th Degree
Black Sash George Andronikas, Founder of the All Greece Shaolin-Kung-Fu
Association.
